Born in Kyoto in 1970. After gaining experience in a wide range of fields, including architecture, art, food, and traditional performing arts, he opened the restaurant "Ricordi" in Gion, Kyoto in 1995. In pursuit of the fusion of dining space and design, he also began making his own tableware.
In 2001, he launched his own brand, "Sfera," and as creative director, he has developed products that combine tradition and modernity both domestically and internationally. In particular, he has consistently exhibited at the world's largest international furniture fair, "Milano Salone," from its early days, presenting interior products and accessories rooted in Japanese aesthetics. His unique worldview has been highly praised, leading to the expansion of his international sales channels.
In 2003, the company opened the Sfera Building in Gion, a space equipped with a shop, gallery, cafe, and bar, where it continues to communicate the brand's worldview. Since then, the company has continued to develop its own collections, including OBJECTS and DOnG. Currently, the company continues to engage in multifaceted activities beyond the brand, including spatial and product design and producing the development of overseas sales channels.
Sfera is a brand that was launched in 2001 when its founder and creative director, Shigeo Mashiro, established his design studio in Kyoto.
Since its founding, the company has focused on the international market, and has continued to create interior products that are rooted in Japanese creativity and that capture the spirit of the modern era and have universal appeal.
Our mission is to support the passing on of craft techniques that have been refined over a long history to the present and future, and we have created opportunities for traditional craftsmanship to find new markets in Japan and overseas. Each of our products is shaped by a fusion of ancient materials, traditional techniques, and a modern sensibility for beauty, and is imbued with a high-quality style that is full of individuality and expressiveness.
With its eye-catching, distinctive exterior and an interior filled with a dignified atmosphere, the Sfera Building is a landmark that connects tradition and modernity in the historic Gion district of Kyoto. Opened in 2003, it is Sfera's cultural hub, bringing together design, crafts, art, and food.

This cafe faces the lush promenade on the west side of the Sfera Building. "Carefully crafted with the finest ingredients, served in a sophisticated style" - the Sfera concept remains the same when it comes to food. We offer hand-dripped coffee made from freshly ground beans, fresh juices and homemade cordials made with seasonal fruits, and alcoholic beverages such as natural wines. We also offer Japanese and Western sweets, as well as light meals made with fresh vegetables. Small dogs are welcome.
